As a member of the Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce, I heard about a new restaurant this week and decided to give it a try Friday night after work for happy hour. It’s called Sunset Catch and opened just 4 or 5 weeks ago. Perched on the 2nd floor overlooking the Sands Harbor Marina and the Intracoastal Waterway, the views are some of the best in Pompano Beach. There is a nice sized outdoor patio for alfresco dining and great views of the water and surrounding yachts. (yes – a great spot to enjoy sunset).
Inside is a freeform shaped bar, two dining areas and a room for private dining. Décor is mostly white with turquoise accents and reflects the South Florida lifestyle (think diving and fishing) – while unobtrusive flat screens play scuba diving footage and fishing shows. The restaurant features floor to ceiling glass on the western side so you can even have a nice sunset view from the comfort of the air conditioned dining room and bar.
We arrived before the end of happy hour and enjoyed $5 glasses of wine – along with $7 appetizers at the bar. Friendly and attentive bartenders, Robin & Max recommended their favorites to try – fried calamari with a very light breading served hot and tender with a tasty marinara. Max recommended the pesto gnocchi – YUM. The gnocchi were light and fluffy with a cheesy pesto sauce. We also tried the lobster ravioli that was very good.
We had the opportunity to meet one of the partners in the restaurant. Walter, also known as “the “wine doctor”, a friendly unassuming guy with a keen wine interest that’s reflected everywhere, from the house wines to wine list.
It’s a nice new addition to the wining and dining scene in Pompano Beach.
